Just a few days left before Super Bowl 51. Brands have been ratcheting up their promotion this week, many of them releasing teasers or even their full ads. We’re up to more than 40 advertising brands whose ads will be running during the big game. So, how have these ads been received on Twitter?
A few brands are new to the Super Bowl, and their simple presence has been a story. For example, Nintendo is airing its first Super Bowl ad this year, and that’s resulted in more than 13,000 tweets about its ad, making it one of the most talked-about spots in the week leading up to the game.
Other brands have caused a stir with the ads themselves. Budweiser and 84 Lumber have addressed politicized subjects in their commercials. For Budweiser in particular, this has resulted in a ton of buzz, earning their ad more than 47,000 tweets so far (and grabbing the top spot on Twitter right now). And Audi’s taking a stand for feminism with their commercial, which has generated more than 6,000 tweets so far.
Others have been talked about because they’ve got serious star power behind them. Wix, Honda, Tiffany & Co. and Buick all have major celebrities in their ads. That alone generates interest, but it’s compounded when celebs with major Twitter followings, like Gal Gadot, promote the ads from their accounts.
We’ll be watching Twitter and the game on Sunday, so we’ll post more as we see how the social audience responds to all the commercials in real time. Stay tuned!
